Privacy Policy

Effective September 16, 2026

The short version: what happens in the booth stays on your phone. The exceptions are exactly the ones you'd guess — the app sends your food descriptions to an AI to get calorie numbers — and they are all listed below.

What stays on your phone

• Your voice. When you hold the bubble and speak, the recording is transcribed to text by a speech engine running on your phone. Recordings and transcripts are processed and stored on the device only.
• Your food log, diary, and weight entries. These live in the app's private storage on your phone. They are excluded from cloud backups. They are never uploaded anywhere.
• Deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no account and no copy elsewhere.

What leaves your phone, and why

To turn your words into calorie estimates, the app sends some data to our server, which passes it to Google's Gemini AI for processing:

• The text of a food confession (for example, "two eggs and toast") when it isn't found in the app's built-in food list.
• Photos of nutrition labels, when you choose to scan one.
• A short voice recording, only in the case where on-device transcription fails and the app tries the AI as a fallback.
• A random installation ID — a number the app made up at install time. It is not your name, email, or advertising ID. It exists so our server can apply fair-use limits per install.

Our server does not store your food text, photos, or audio. It keeps operational metadata only (such as timestamps and request counts) to enforce usage limits. Google processes these requests under its own Gemini API terms.

What we don't do

• No accounts. We don't know who you are.
• No ads and no advertising trackers.
• No analytics SDKs.
• No selling of data — there is nothing to sell.
• No sharing with third parties beyond the AI processing described above.

Notifications

If you allow it, the app sends you local reminder notifications ("calls to confession") at times you control. These are generated on your phone and involve no network activity.

Payments

The subscription is billed through Google Play. We never see or store your payment details; Google handles all of it under its own terms.

Children

Calorie Confessional is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Data deletion

Uninstalling the app permanently deletes your food log, diary, weight entries, and settings from your phone. Because our server keeps no copy of your content, there is nothing further to delete. Questions or requests: email us at the address below.
